Why Learn Sanskrit?

Learn Sanskrit

Sanskrit is one of the oldest languages in the world. It has been used to pen vast amounts of literature from the ancient times – epics, mantras and scientific knowledge. Here are some reasons why learning Sanskrit can be beneficial for you

  1. Perks of being Multilingual – Learning a new language might seem like a daunting task. However it is ultimately good for the brain. Research shows us that learning new languages help improve memory, listening skills and the ability to multitask. In a way, you’d be flexing your brain and learning something new at the same time!
  2. Gateway to other languages-  Sanskrit is an ancient language. Some call it the ‘mother of all languages’. Sanskrit can help you understand the roots of words from other languages like Hindi and Bengali as well. In a way, Sanskrit is like a gateway to learning more languages.
  3. Spiritually Sound – Learning Sanskrit will open up you to the culture of Hinduism, and its teachings. A number of Hindu religious and spiritual texts are written in Sanskrit, like the Veda, Gita, and the Upanishads. Knowledge of Sanskrit will allow you to access these texts better and perhaps help you find your place in the world.
  4. A brush with History – Sanskrit is one of the oldest languages in the world.  It has a history of 3500 years. It shares affinity with Old Latin and Greek. Learning the language will allow you to be a part of the history as a species.
